Riders Away!
Thirty-nine riders signed up for The 4th Annual Mother Road Ride/Rally®. It was a particular pleasure for me to be able to join the Chicago starters for the westbound run. Sadly, I had to drop off in Oklahoma City to attend to the 'day job,' but I'm planning to do more of the ride next summer. The last run this century. Full information on next year's run is available at 817-488-4940 and on the Internet at www.hhjm.com/rally.
Video In the Works
Thanks to the special help from Jim Ross of Ghost Town Press (they publish the excellent 8 map set on Route 66 that we sell) and the Mother Roaders who started with me in Chicago, I recorded a lot of video tape on Route 66 in Illinois. More on that second video in our planned series on Route 66 after we finish editing and scoring. The first tape in that series Ride Route 66 - Arizona is complete . . . just $14.95 + $3 s&h. You can order a pre-production, advance order for the Ride Route 66-Illinois at the same price. Call 800-553-5883 24 hours a day.
New Logo
Back in the 1994 when
the Mother Road
Ride/Rally got started the
only Route 66 sign we could find to use in
our print materials was a Canadian highway
sign. Happily, in just the last year, we've
located a real Route 66 highway sign suitable
for reproduction. We'll be incorporating it
into our publications. Thanks for being so
patient . . . it has been a real annoyance to
us (and others) not to have the real thing.
Interesting Addressee
The 4th Annual Mother Road Ride/Rally® welcomed Bruce Menz this year. Bruce makes his home in Washington state on a street called Big Beef Crossing. As soon as the rush is over we'll be visiting with him about how that street got its name. Sounds like something that ought to be in a town down here in Texas or some other cattle country locale, no?
Route 66 by way of Kanab, UT
Arch Archuleta from
Monticello, MN, another Repeat Offender (The 4th Annual Mother Road
Ride/Rally® is Arch's
second Mother Road
Ride/Rally) planned
to make the route via
the Christian Motorcyclists Association's
rally in Kanab, Utah. Readers of Motorcycle
Guide to Route 66 will remember Arch's
picture of the 'rooms' at the Wigwam Motel
in Holbrook, AZ. The Wigwam is a 'join
up' point on this year's run.
Two Up Riders
It is a particular
pleasure to register
'two up' participants
in The Annual
Mother Road
Ride/Rally®. You
just can't have more
togetherness than the
2,400 miles of Route
66 . . . and the return home.
We snapped the
three 'two uppers'
that began their ride
in Chicago on June
12, 1998.
We look forward to more couples joining The 5th Annual Mother Road Ride/Rally® when it hits Historic Route 66 on June 12, 1999.
National Ride to Work Day
Mark Wednesday, July 15, 1998 on your calendar as the day you'll ride your motorcycle to work. More bikes on the road translates to more recognition of motorcycles and that is a solid 'good' for us all.
