57 Bikes Away

Fifty seven bikes made The 3rd Annual Mother Road Ride/Rally this year. We're looking forward to pictures and stories from this year's run.

We will also start pulling things together for the 4th Annual. It - again - will be the second Saturday in June and we expect to attract more corporate interest. That's because we have demonstrated some staying power and the businesses who helped out this year seemed pleased with their investment.

The "Other" Route 66's

There is a Texas highway numbered "66." It too was muscled out by an Interstate (I-30) and wends its way through small towns east of Dallas. A spare 40 miles long, Texas' Route 66 goes from the Dallas suburb of Garland east and north to Greenville. The smallest of the route's towns is Fate, population 475. The part time city secretary at Fate, Sandra Lobban, sees growth in the future of Fate, noting that "[the other town] has come as far as it can. The rest of it's Fate."

As I read the article about Texas' Rte 66 I couldn't help but wonder about other Route 66's. Do you suppose there are many more? Get out your state maps and take a look. We'd like to know about others.

The Copelands Cope

Wayne and Martha Copeland from Hot Springs Village, Arkansas rode the Mother Road this Summer. The 3rd Annual Mother Road Ride/Rally is the longest trip on two wheels for both the Copelands. Martha told us she has been riding "off and on . . . more off than on . . . since 1971" while Wayne has been on two wheels for the past two years.

Ready to Voyage

Clarence Huff - who has been riding for 45 years - will be riding his Kawasaki Voyager in the 3rd Annual Mother Road Ride/Rally. Clarence has done the Four Corners Tour, so the Mother Road Ride/Rally will practically be a day at the beach. (The Four Corners puts you at the four corners of the Continental United States within a 21 day period.)

'Web Site

We're inviting people from all over to visit our new 'Web Site. Our address is: http://www.hhjm.com/bikes. You'll find information about The 4th Annual Mother Road Ride/Rally® of course, but there is also a lot of other useful information.

Touring motorcyclists are sensitive to weather, so we offer links to a National Doppler Radar weather map. It will show you rain all across the United States. You can also get the local weather forecast for a half dozen cities along Route 66.

There is also a link to a very extensive calendar of motorcycle events. The owners of that page allow visitors to the site to add events they themselves are aware of. Perhaps you can help out your own organization by posting information there. Surf on by - and sign our Guest Book!

Cobra Strikes

Stanley Gorniak, a Police Officer from Chicago, rolled out from our Chicago departure point bright and early. Stan has been riding motorcycles for some 35 years Previously he rode round trip to the Grand Canyon.

The Grand Canyon is one of the most popular "side trips" for Mother Roaders. Williams, AZ bills themselves as the "Gateway to the Grand Canyon." The Canyon is roughly 70 miles north of Williams. A "must see" if you haven't, it is truly awesome.
