The high cost of land next the Interstates pretty well doomed the "tourist trap(s)," rattlesnake farms, two headed calfs, etc., but the half mile strip north of the Interstate at the Arizona New Mexico border is garish testimony to the fact that Route 66 was ALL about money. The money in tourist's pockets and how best to extract it from same.
