New Route 66 Collectible
Over the past several years I've noticed that the area
around motorcycle
ignition switches
often looks like
someone has attacked with a b-b
gun. Lots of nicks, dings and dents. That's
why when we designed The 5th Annual
Mother Road
Ride/Rally® key tab,
we specified soft plastic for the tab.
That means you get a
key tab that is easy to
grab out of a
crowded pocket yet it
won't flog the paint
and plastic around
your ignition switch.
A California caller
plans to use several
for Christmas Tree ornaments. They are just
$1.75 each. You can order 'on line' at
www.hhjm.com/rally/keytab.htm or give us
a call at 1-800-553-5883 (Outside the United
States dial: 817-488-4940).
New Route 66 Diary on Internet
Joe Miller of Dayton, OH, a participant in The 4th Annual Mother Road Ride/Rally® and a Repeat Offender (registrant for the 5th Annual in June, 1999), was kind enough to share his pictures and journal for the 1998 run. See it at: www.hhjm.com/66/diaries.htm. It will also be included in the 1999 Edition of Motorcycle Guide to Route 66, which is now in stock and ready for immediate delivery at 1-800-553-5883 (Outside the United States: 817-488-4940),
New Faces at Hackberry, AZ
By the time you read this, it is a good bet
that John & Kerry Pritchard are 'on site' at
the Old Route 66 Visitor's Center in
Hackberry, AZ. John & Kerry are taking
over the center
from Route 66
veteran, Bob
Waldmire.
Bob is headed
towards his
family's Cozy
Dog in Springfield, IL.
He'll spend
the next few
years writing
his father's biography and then return to
southeastern Arizona.
Legislative Update
David Knudson, Executive Director of the National Historic Route 66 Federation reports that the legislation pending in Congress to provide for the protection of our favorite road did not come to a vote during the last session. Congress starts with a clean slate each session so David promises that they will start up that steep hill again in 1999.
David and his team of Route 66 enthusiasts need all the help they can get in working toward a comprehensive program to preserve what remains of Route 66 and to enhance the truly unique experience of traveling America's most famous highway. Contact the Federation at: 818-352-7232 or see their Internet site at: www.national66.com.
A New Generation of International Interest in America's Route 66.
During the Route 66 Expo in Texas (October, 1998) we had the good fortune to meet
a Canadian couple cruising Route 66. Will
and Liana
told us they
were listening
to the song
Get Your
Kicks on
Route 66 one
night and
thought that it
would be a
terrific trip. Particularly on their brand new
BMW. They began their trip in Chicago and
planned a side trip to the Grand Canyon.
Liana planned to fly home to Toronto from
Los Angeles, Will would return 'one up.'
Editor: They've promised us words and
pictures from their trip that we are very
much looking forward to seeing.
