Hard Time(s) for Riders
Brrrrrr. These are times that try rider's souls! We get a nice day now and then here in Texas, but how we weep for people up north when we see the news reports of drifts obscuring cars and even Interstates being closed. TAKE HEART! This too will pass. We're logging registrations for The 5th Annual Mother Road Ride/Rally® and, before you know it, we'll be gettin' our kicks on Route 66.
Pushing for Springfield
Bob Waldmire, lately of Hackberry, AZ,
sent us this picture of his rolling home as it
crossed the
Mississippi
River headed
towards his
family's Cozy
Dog Restaurant
in Springfield,
IL. Bob plans
to spend the
next two years
writing a biography of his father - inventor of the Cozy
Dog (a.k.a corny dog) - then head for south
east Arizona.
Early Route 66 City
When Route 66 was
first laid out it included Santa Fe, New
Mexico. Santa Fe,
one of the oldest cities in the United
States and the highest
state capital, was by
passed early on in
favor of the larger
Albuquerque. It remains a very interesting city and is often included on Route 66
cruiser's agendas.
Special Friends of Rally
We are particularly
indebted to the people
who have registered
for the rally more
than once since our
beginning in 1995.
We've designed a
special logo for them
and want to recognize
them in this issue of
the newsletter as we gear up for number 5.

Roy's Meets Honda & Rider
The March, 1999 of Rider magazine featured
a big double page ad from Honda that featured a 'Wing (of course) and a Route 66
favorite deep in the heart of the Mojave
Desert.
Roy's is one
of the few
businesses
still hanging
on along the
National Old
Trails segment of old
Route 66
south of Interstate 10
between
Needles, CA
and Barstow.
Assuming
there wasn't
some camera
trickery involved, Honda hauled a new 'Wing out to
Amboy, CA waited for sunset (sunrise?) And
snapped the picture. Quite a tribute to our
favorite road! Roy's has been serving Route
66 cruisers since 1934. The Amboy Crater
is west of the city. Bagdad, CA is also on
this loop of 66. (The movie, Bagdad Cafe
was actually filmed on up the road a bit in
Newberry Springs).
