Registrations Up 46% Registrations for The 5th Annual Mother Road Ride/Rally® exceeded 1998 by over 45%. In all we registered 57 people this year, versus 39 last year.

The Year-By-Year Totals:

1995 . . . . 45

1996 . . . . 65

1997 . . . . 57

1998 . . . . 39

1999 . . . . 57

So, in total, 263 people have registered for the event. And, most interesting, 16 of the registrants are Repeat Offenders . . . having registered more than once (some for 4!).

I plan to leave Grapevine June 8 for Chicago and to return down Route 66 with the people planning to start from Chicago. It is my favorite time of the year . . . a great ride, good company, and each year I see new things on Historic Route 66.

Ride With Sterl If You Don't Have a Cellular Phone

Sterling and Eleanor Page from Henderson, NV, plan to start The 5th Annual Mother Road Ride/Rally® in Needles, CA and ride as far east as their schedule permits. Sterl is a self employed telecommunications consultant so you can bet he can stay in touch wherever he is. Their permanent home is in North Carolina . . . they're in Henderson through the Fall developing courses for the Sprint company.

BEEMERS Searching Texas

BMW'ers got together in Central Texas early in May for their annual meeting. Dick Davis told us this picture was snapped when a group of riders were trying to decide which way to Rocksprings, TX. As it turned out, the answer was on the sign above their heads. It gave the direction and distance to Rocksprings (left, 41 miles).

World's Only Women's Team

Lynell Corbett of Durango, CO, a former school teacher, found her true calling when she organized the world's only all women synchronized motorcycle riding team. Hardly Angels performs at fairs, festivals and rallies on local, state, national and international levels. Reach Lynell at: 970-259-1322.

The Norwegians are coming!

The Norwegians are coming!

The Norwegians are coming!

Earlier this year Trond Moberg of Norway and I struck up an e-mail correspondence. Trond planned to bring a group of Norwegians to run Route 66 - west to east - from Los Angeles to Chicago. We exchanged ideas about the Mother Road and things people would want to see and do.

Then, late in May, I got a package from Trond with one of their t-shirts (100% Bomull, which I take to mean cotton in Norwegian), their really pretty full color patch and even a CD. It has their "official song." Wow. What a trip they will have! The Mother Road may never be the same And for sure they will be remembered as they wend their way to Chicago. I'd like to be able to visit with them in Needles, CA after they cross the Mojave Desert.
