Still Waiting for Cool
We're still bumping into triple digits now and then here in Texas. And we're always in the mid to high 90's. We're more than ready for a little cool and the great fall riding season!
Someone to Watch Over You
Carole and Ken Davenport were kind enough
to send us a picture of Santa Monica's patron
saint. Her
statue
watches over
street people
and Route 66
cruisers a
block north
of the plaque
that marks
the end of
Route 66.
The plaque is
in Palisades
Park a block
north of the
Santa Monica
Pier. If you
can't find
parking space along Ocean Blvd, then you
can park in the pay lot on the Pier, go one
block north to the plaque then another block
north to St. Monica's statue. Nice walk after
all those miles and Palisades park is right
above the beach and the Pacific ocean.
Baddad will be Eastbound
Dale 'Baddad' Simmons will be running east
on Route 66 in June of next year. A veteran
of 34 years of 'two wheelin' (he started out
on a 50cc Honda step through), Baddad will
be on a HD FLHTCI next summer. Dale has
been an active joiner of motorcycle groups .
. . even serving as President and editor of a
national magazine followed by founding
District 38 (San Diego County CA and Imperial County) of the AMA. Baddad told us
that he does motorcycles, not brands, not
gender, not race, just motorcycles. And, of
course, that's what The 5th Annual Mother
Road Ride/Rally® is all about! Welcome
aboard, Dale.
John Paul Jones Sails Up to Chain of Rocks Bridge
John Paul Jones of Middbury, IN was kind
enough to e-mail us a picture of his visit to
the Illinois
side of the
Chain of
Rocks Bridge.
A visit a person has to
really want to
make. In the
summer of
1998, getting
there entailed
crossing a
single lane, under construction, grid bridge
and squeezing through a narrow gateway
(about one 'Wing wide). A few 4th Annual
Mother Road Ride/Rally® (June, 1998)
participants made the stop and braved a
rutted, pot-holed dirt road to the bank of the
Mississippi for a better view of the bridge.
The Art of the Motorcycle
Bikes, bikes
and more
bikes were
featured at the
Guggenheim
Museum in
New York
through September 20,
1998. The
show is sponsored by BMW, so, as you
would expect, a number of their bikes are
featured. Still looks like a worth while 'go
look' for all motorcyclists. It moves to
Chicago's Field Museum in November.
